Car following with an inertia-oriented driving technique: A driving simulator experiment

چکیده

For many decades, car-following (CF) and congestion models have assumed a basic invariance: drivers’ default driving strategy is to keep the safety distance. The present study questions that Driving Distance (DD) traffic invariance and, therefore, difference between time required accelerate versus decelerate must necessarily determine observed patterns of oscillations. Previous studies shown drivers can adopt alternative CF strategies like Inertia (DI) by following instructions. work aims test effectiveness DI course integrates 4 tutorials practice sessions in standard PC computer designed learn more adaptive behaviors dense traffic. Methods. Sixty-eight were invited follow leading car varied its speed on simulator, then they took computer, finally followed fluctuating leader again simulator. adopted pretest-intervention-posttest design with control group. experimental group full (tutorials simulator practice). had access but not tutorials. Results. All participating DD as mode pre-test, yielding very similar results. But after taking course, showed significantly less accelerations, decelerations, variability than group, greater distance, was dynamically adjusted, spending fuel post-test. A 8 virtual cars adopting space road course.

A Training Oriented Driving Simulator

In today’s China, a growing number of people have the opportunity to have their own cars. This creates tremendous requirement of training of new drivers. At the same time, recent advances in Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality system have brought the new opportunities for the development of driving simulation. This paper describes a driving simulator named TODS which is the acronym of trainin...

Intermittent Control Properties of Car Following: I. Driving Simulator Experiments

A rather simple car driving simulator was created based on the available open source engine TORCS and used to analyze the basic features of human behavior in car driving within the car-following and free-driving setups. Four drivers with different skill in driving real cars participated in these experiments. They were instructed to driver a virtual car without overtaking the lead car driven by ...

Survey the effect of texting on driving performances using drivers driving a Simulator

Introduction: There is evidence that driver distraction is one of the major causes of vehicle accidents. One of the key factors that can affect people's driving performance drastically, is texting. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the effects of texting on driving functions using a driving simulator. Methods and Materials: This study was conducted on 80 students ranging fro...

Car-Following Models based on Driving Strategies

The models introduced in this chapter are derived from assumptions about real driving behavior such as keeping a “safe distance” from the leading vehicle, driving at a desired speed, or preferring accelerations to be within a comfortable range. Additionally, kinematical aspects are taken into account, such as the quadratic relation between braking distance and speed. We introduce two examples: ...

Driving an autonomous car with eye tracking

This paper describes eyeDriver, a hardware and software setup to drive an autonomous car with eye movement. The movement of the operator’s iris is tracked with an infrared sensitive camera built onto a HED4 interface by SMI. The position of the iris is then propagated by eyeDriver to control the steering wheel of “Spirit of Berlin”, a completely autonomous car developed by the Free University o...
